How Does Therapy Work?

Our first step will be to chat on the phone, see if we’re a good fit, discuss what prompted you to reach out, and what you hope to accomplish in therapy.

In the first few sessions, we’ll get to know each other. You will be given the space to share your story. We’ll explore and process your life, relationships, symptoms, interests, and current and historical stressors.

We’ll work together to develop treatment goals focusing on your utmost priorities. We’ll be mindful of your strengths, natural supports, and potential hurdles we may encounter.

I will also teach you some pretty amazing coping skills and strategies to rewire your brain to be more at peace. Brace yourself, I am a coping skills nerd!

Throughout our time together we’ll check in on your progress, and breathe, reflect, and strategize if new or old stressors arise. Healing is not linear. So, it’s a good thing therapy is adaptable.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are your hours?

Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5pm

Evening appointments can be scheduled by request, and at the discretion of the therapist.

If I need to reschedule or cancel our appointment, I will provide you with multiple alternative appointment times throughout the same week, including evening and weekend when possible.

  • Are there payment options if I don’t have health insurance and can't afford to pay out of pocket?

I do provide a sliding scale fee for private pay. This is income driven and varies based on your individual circumstance. Let’s discuss your options in more detail.

  • Do I really have to lie down on a couch like in TV and movies?

Definitely not a requirement for therapy, but I’m not going to judge if you decide to. I do have both a comfortable and pretty pink couch in my office.

  • Do I really need to see a therapist?

We could all benefit from therapy at one point or another in life. I see my own therapist, and I am a therapist. It feels good to process day to day stressors, receive validation that you really are doing your best, be reminded that it’s ok if you’re not always ok, and to hear an unbiased perspective.

  • How long are therapy sessions?

Sessions run 45 minutes to 1 hour.

  • How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?

Finding the right therapist is like trying on a new pair of shoes… you’ve got to find the right fit.

For therapy to be truly effective and meaningful, you have to like the person, feel comfortable, and being willing to show them your ugliest and most vulnerable parts. Otherwise, you’re just Band-Aiding the problem. If I’m not your right fit, no hard feelings. This is your life, your journey, you deserve to feel good while putting in the work in therapy.
